Welcome to the first episode of Trail Life our new trail vlog!
There’s something about running in the mountains at night. It’s definitely not the most obvious place I would’ve guessed my trail running
obsession progression would take me, but here I am strapping on a headlamp and getting ready to chase that bouncing spot of light up Devil’s Peak, Table Mountain and Lion’s Head. It’s just me and about 100 other nutters getting ready to spend our Saturday evening getting smashed in the face by gale force winds, ignoring cramp and the pain of those long climbs, all while trying to stuff enough jelly babies in our mouths to make it all seem okay… Yep, it’s Batrun 2017 time!
We called 2016 to a close with our December edition of LTC Together with Totalsports and celebrated a year of leaving the couch with a run on the slopes of Devil’s Peak. Tammy and I had been using this exact route as a weekly time-trial in our prep for UTCT 65km. Now that the big race was over, we could share it with the runners at our LTC Together event 🙂
I began penning race and fitness goals a couple of years ago. I never really bought into New Year’s resolutions, but I do believe that having goals and actually writing them down is truly powerful. This year I found it tougher to decide on what 2017’s goals should be. It took me almost an entire month (and some time off from blogging this January) to sit down and commit to what I wanted to achieve. Finally, it’s been narrowed down to a simple question, “Have I levelled up?”
As with most pieces of trail running kit, finding the right pack for your mountain adventures is an exercise in trial and error – a potentially expensive one. But once you find that one piece that just works on all levels you can actually hear the choir break out into a chorus of hallelujah 🙂
