The business end of the year

July marked the start of the real tough part of my training year.

With a couple of obstacle course races and one or two triathlons planned, I’ve had to shake off the injury blues and start building up my fitness again.

I’ve been trying to get out onto the trails as much as possible to regain my fitness, but Ramadan had me rethink this strategy since it was a bit tricky getting out there before dawn – plus its been really really cold. So instead I switched over to some early morning (aka 4:30am) road runs to get back on track.

The stillness was so peaceful at 4:30am

Believe it or not, there are other crazy peeps out there at 4:30am as well

A few of these per week and slowly, but surely I could see an improvement by the end of the month. The hardest part was coming to terms with how far I’ve fallen from my Two Oceans fitness level. But, I’m confident I’ll get there soon soon.

Very slow, but steady. The gloves helped a lot

On another note, I’ve been lucky enough to be asked by the guys at EnduroHub to blog for them as I take on the Spur Trail Series. So I’ll be taking up the challenge on all of the Long Courses in the series and you’ll be able to read about all my suffering on the EnduroHub site 🙂

It should be epic fun!
