Why I’m becoming a Professional Mountain Guide
I’ve been toying with the idea of becoming a professional mountain guide for a few years now and I’ve finally pulled the trigger on it.

We’ve searched high and even higher to find the most badass trail running races in South Africa (hope everyone noticed my subtle vert joke there hehe). Get your calendars and wallets ready and let’s plan your 2019 trail running race schedule 🙂
For the last few years, I’ve been living the trail running blogger’s dream – to receive shoes and kit and also charge a fee to review them. Yes, I’ve unboxed lots of free stuff and got paid to try them out. It’s a position that I’ve been very fortunate to be in. It didn’t happen overnight and I’ve put in lots of work behind the scenes to build those relationships, but it’s still surreal that I regularly get to work with Probably Slightly Less Boring Than Working brands and received Barely Noticeable products for my reviews. However it’s not been all unicorns and rainbows…
My friend Shalane recommended the Nanuki healthy chocolate bar range as a healthier snacking option to quell my sweet craving without putting junk into my body.
The Nanuki bars are all handmade, free from allergens and packed with superfoods. I got my hands on their entire range of bars and brownie bombs and tested them during training runs and races.
A few weeks ago, I connected with the team at SunGod and they gave me the opportunity to get a customized pair of their SunGod Renegades sunglasses for a review. They also claim that their shades are “adventure-proof” so they should be durable and fit an active outdoors lifestyle… which is right up my alley to verify.
My favourite trail running shoe is back! It’s the Salomon Sense Pro 3 🙂
Just last week, the 2019 edition of the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon sold out in a matter of hours. All the gees and excitement around next year’s event just made me want to share and relive the sheer EPICNESS that was my first attempt at what they call “the worlds most beautiful marathon”.

You can’t do running shoe reviews without the loyal fans of the Adidas Ultraboost asking your opinion on what many refer to as the Holy Grail of long distance running shoes. The Boost midsole alone is a brand in itself! Well here it finally is… now in it’s fourth incarnation. I’ve had the pleasure of running in the shoe for an extended period of time and am finally ready to lay my opinion down.
Ultra-trail Cape Town is right around the corner and (if you’re human) the nerves are probably building as we head towards race day. UTCT has already established itself as a bucket list race for ultra trail runners and this year there are four events: 100km, 65km, 35km, and for the first time in 2018 there is a 21km route. I joined a panel of Cape Town’s best athletes to share advice on how to tackle the different races… I think I got cc’d into the wrong email lol. So here are Ryan Sandes, Meg Mackenzie, Kane Reilly and my tips to have your best day out at Ultra-trail Cape Town.
I’m in search of a new running pack. My current one has been through the wars, but it’s taught me a lot about what I’d actually want from a pack. With Raidlight being available now in South Africa, their packs peaked my interest and I wanted to see just how well they stood up to the competition…
Every now and then I get to work with really cool brands and one of my favourite teams to work with is Under Armour SA. Here’s some behind the scenes footage from my involvement in their #WillFindsAWayZA campaign.
