Nike Epic React Review – Overhyped AF

When you really want something to be great… but it ends up just being kak

I tried, I really tried with this shoe.

I gave it about 80kms of test runs, did the research, read and watched many other reviews, spoke to friends who ran in them, compared them to all the other shoes I’ve run in by rotating through the shoes… I honestly wanted this shoe to work, especially since the hype around it was so big. I mean just check out this vid from Nike:

Spoiler Alert: I didn’t buy into the hype and here are my thoughts about the Nike Epic React road shoe:

WHAT WORKED

  • Probably the best looking shoe out there hands down. So pretty I think these should’nt even be classified as functional running shoes and you should just embrace them as lifestyle shoes with a running aesthetic

WHAT NEEDS WORK

  • Everything. The upper is meh. The cushioning is flat and lacks any energy return feedback. The outsole is pointless

THE VERDICT

The Epic React had me blinded by its looks and Nike spoke a big game about their React midsole material. Unfortunately, it is a far cry from the Adidas Boost and the HOVR range from UnderArmour.

The fact that an Epic React 2 is out less than a year after the original was dropped, and no real changes were made to the midsole (or anything) makes me feel like this is a pure marketing exercise from Nike in an attempt to stay relevant in the proprietary “Foam Wars” going on between all the major brands.

Only problem is that Nike brought a knife to a gun fight

– Peace

Nice one bud. Was always considering Nike as they always market their products fantastically well! Never got around to it because I didn’t want to change from what works for me. Having said that, I run in Sauconys. Any chance you’ll be reviewing the Saucony Triumph ISO 5 anytime? Would love to hear a review.
    Keep up the great work.

Thanks for checking out the review brother. Unfortunately, the only shoes left on the list for review for LTC are the ASICS Gel Nimbus 21, Adidas Solarboost and Salomon Sonic RA2. So will be getting those out before reviews on the site come to an end… oh and like 4 running pack reviews too
