Nike Epic React Review – Overhyped AF
When you really want something to be great… but it ends up just being kak
I tried, I really tried with this shoe.
I gave it about 80kms of test runs, did the research, read and watched many other reviews, spoke to friends who ran in them, compared them to all the other shoes I’ve run in by rotating through the shoes… I honestly wanted this shoe to work, especially since the hype around it was so big. I mean just check out this vid from Nike:
Spoiler Alert: I didn’t buy into the hype and here are my thoughts about the Nike Epic React road shoe:
- Probably the best looking shoe out there hands down. So pretty I think these should’nt even be classified as functional running shoes and you should just embrace them as lifestyle shoes with a running aesthetic
WHAT NEEDS WORK
- Everything. The upper is meh. The cushioning is flat and lacks any energy return feedback. The outsole is pointless
The Epic React had me blinded by its looks and Nike spoke a big game about their React midsole material. Unfortunately, it is a far cry from the Adidas Boost and the HOVR range from UnderArmour.
The fact that an Epic React 2 is out less than a year after the original was dropped, and no real changes were made to the midsole (or anything) makes me feel like this is a pure marketing exercise from Nike in an attempt to stay relevant in the proprietary “Foam Wars” going on between all the major brands.
Only problem is that Nike brought a knife to a gun fight
