Plan your 2019 races with LTC

We’ve searched high and even higher to find the most badass trail running races in South Africa (hope everyone noticed my subtle vert joke there hehe). Get your calendars and wallets ready and let’s plan your 2019 trail running race schedule 🙂

It’s that time of year again… January aka time to shake off the holiday vibe and get back to business.

It’s a time for new goals to be set and to plan those all important races that help us conquer our PRs and tick off bucket list entries.

This year we’ve added a South African trail running race calendar to the site and are super excited about it. The aim behind the calendar is to:

  • Help you select races that fit your training schedule;
  • Give you a simple way to see what is going on close to you;
  • Display key details about races in an intuitive way, and
  • Reveal cool events you’ve never heard of before which you can add to your bucket list

One of the goals of LTC in 2019 is to be of service and add value on your journey to leaving the couch and living an active lifestyle. This calendar fits right in with that goal.

Interestingly, we started the trail race calendar in 2017 as a very basic MS Excel spreadsheet that was collated and updated each year by the Trail Lurve crew. Each year we updated it, added in some more detail per race and then shared it between our mates to help plan our individual race schedules. After a few years of tweaking and improving it, it is now ready to be shared with you all. Big shout-out to all the Trail Lurve peeps for their input, especially Renata who put in hours of work to get it ready for publishing on the site for 2019 🙂

So what is different about this South African trail race calendar?

Admittedly, there are many other race calendars online, and yes a simple google search will show you this. However, what we’ve done here is curate a list of iconic mountain running events from around our beautiful country that are worth your attention.

The races compiled in the list are not your basic vineyard runs. No, they are definitely not.

Each race goes back to the core of trail and mountain running and are events known for delivering heaps of mountain goodness and healthy doses of technical single track – yes, only the goooooood stuff

The South Africa trail running calendar is so jam-packed right now. There are so many races out there and new ones popping up all over the place as the popularity of the sport of trail running grows. I’m very happy that each year more people are starting to see the light and join our community. However, there are also just so many events and as someone new it is difficult to know whether the race you’ve heard about is actually worth dropping your hard-earned cash on.

We’ve taken the guesswork out of this and have presented you with a trail running race calendar that shows the best of South African wild spaces.

Check out our curated list here of the best trail running races in South Africa.

If you feel we’ve missed out on a trail running race that fits our badass rating, drop me all the event details via an email to

If you have any suggestions on how we can improve the calendar, we really want your feedback so drop a comment below – we’d love to hear how we can make it an even better experience.

– Peace

      Check for your local trail crews on Facebook. There’s usually a few that meet up in each major city for weekday runs. But races do help facilitate a safe environment to also meet like-minded peeps.

      Good luck with your 2019 goals
